John Berger states that “the way we see things is affected by what we know or what we believe”. Created using digital photographic processes, the Mountainscapes series renders the notion that all representations of the landscape are constructed, fabricated versions of the world which surrounds us.

Each re-imagining of the landscape in this series has been built from images taken in the mystical mountains of New Zealand’s South Island. Hinging on the panoramic and the aesthetic of traditional black and white image making practices, the images simultaneously relate to, and subvert these practices.

Places which hold extreme, intense beauty are often associated with the experience of the sublime, each image in this series holds separate accounts of such experiences.
