 Liminal Spaces

Liminal Places (2018) is a collage of photos that represent how my feelings of home are torn between two places. As a second generation Asian in Australia, my identity is divided and does not belong, neither to my current nor my ancestral home. The physically overlapping images show my fragmented identity as I am unable to fully embrace both cultures.

Subsequently, I feel that the places I inhabit are beyond my reach to me and I’m unable to experience both homes in full. These images were shot during my yearly ‘pilgrimages’ to Taiwan, in which I travel from Australia to visit my extended family and to reminisce on the deficient experiences of my other home. Together with images from Australia, this work forms my experiences of two homes where I oscillate between.
