This is Not a Cyanotype

Invented in 1842, the cyanotype was an early photographic technique that had a distinctive blue hue in the creation of its images. Today images are printed with ease, making alternative photographic processes such as the cyanotype redundant.

This is Not a Cyanotype is a series of 6 camera less images of leaves that represents the innovation of cyanotypes. However, instead of engaging in the cyanotype methodology, the images are produced from painting and scanning the actual leaves.

The visual result are blue images that are similar to cyanotypes. Through this new method, this work focuses on linking historical process of producing images to my current practice, contextualizing historical photography into contemporary practice.
