Bad Copy

BAD COPY (2018) is a collection of personal stories and experiences, gathered to form a narrative detailing an upbringing with both Chinese and Australian roots. The photobook separates itself into three parts, archived photographs, self-portraiture and corrupt image files.

The archived photographs recall the experiences of my family after migrating to Australia, highlighting the change of influence in fashion, business and personal relationships. The blue images seen at the opposing end of the book are copies of the archived photographs, having re-captioned in my own, detached, context.

They are not only reflective of an error screen, but also as the idea of becoming a “True Blue” Australian. Never being completely Chinese or completely Australian is where I exist. Accepting the inbetweeness forms my identity.
